Ashton History, Heritage, Memories, and Local Landmarks

Much of the settlement information about Ashton is the same as for Sandy Spring, Maryland. Please refer to that page for specific historical details.

Cricket Book Shop

Ashton´s Cricket Book Shop (pictured above) is a local favorite shopping destination. When the growth spurt began in Olney and Sandy Spring in the late 1960's, there were almost no places for new homeowners to shop. Trips outward meant slow traffic on the rural, two-lane roads until arriving at Rockville or Wheaton.

Nearby Cricket carried wonderful books, unusual gifts, museum cards, and creativity projects making a visit there a joy. Patrons are so fond of it that Barbara's drawing, "The Cricket Book Shop," is a best-seller among the Landmark Prints.
